I was born missing a tooth, which led to self-consciousness and years of orthodontics to maintain the correct space. I always wondered what it would be like to have a beautiful smile. Although I wore a flipper for years, I was too embarrassed to take my tooth out even when my friends found that cool. During my initial appointment, Dr. Jim Downs asked what I didn’t like about my teeth, and he listened carefully. This was a first! I explained my story, and he said, “Megan, we can fix that.” I felt instant comfort and faith in his abilities. The reconstruction process was meticulous. In the end, my new crowns gave me the teeth of my dreams. I now have the big, beautiful smile I’ve always wanted. “My drug addiction was destroying my life and my teeth. I tried to hide my teeth all the time. I hated talking to people because they were always staring at my teeth. I tried to avoid others as much as possible because seeing people meant talking to people and that meant they would see my teeth.” After Zeke had overcome the drug addiction, he flew to Denver from Utah to meet Dr. Downs at his office “It was there that I had my prep work done. When I was 15 I fell off the monkey bars at a park and landed on my face. My braces went through my lips when I hit the dirt. I found out the fall had damaged a nerve. I needed a root canal on #8. Because much of the tooth was lost, the doctor had to place a metal post-and-core and a crown. I hated that thing. I met with Dr. James Downs and became his patient. I absolutely love my new look, and I surprised a lot of people who didn't think it was possible for me to smile more than I had been. Now when I smile, I believe people are thinking, “WOW, she has beautiful teeth."

My smile didn't really bother me when I was younger. I had veneers on #7-10 during my early teen years because I had spaces between those teeth. I didn't really think much of my ‘gummy smile’ until I became a dental lab tech and started to notice everyone’s teeth. I found out that Dr. James Downs was going to do the procedure and I know I was in good hands. I feel I have more confidence now. I realized that I had been embarrassed to smile when I would meet someone for the first time. Now, I'm kind of proud of my new smile and I want to show it off! When I was thirteen years old, I fell while ice skating, and knocked out my front teeth. For 49 years I have worn a partial plate or a bridge. I have gone through three bridge failures. When the last one started to fail, the time came to make the choice between a new bridge and implants. I decided that for the first time in nearly fifty years I wanted my smile to look and feel “real”.
